Zalebiye
Q144924
One of the main forts along the river Euphrates was Zenobia (modern Halabiye). Across the river, the Palmyrene rulers built a second fort, which was rebuilt by the emperor Justinian. River floods and earthquakes have caused its rapid destruction: only its eastern wall, with several remarkable towers, survives.
The site is, perhaps, better known as the place of an Israeli air strike in September 2007.
