History
- Conquest of Raetia (main settlement: Cambonunum = Kempten)
- The Romans must have reached this area (the confluence of Virdo/Wertach and Licus/Lech) during the campaign of 15 BCE
- 8/5 BCE: Roman camp in Augsburg-Oberhausen (legionaries and cavalry) on the far side of the Wertach
- 15/16 CE: Camp NE of the present cathedral (about 1,000 men of XIII Gemina?)
- Reign of Tiberius: Raetia becomes a province; Augusta Vindelicum becomes its capital
- 70 End of military presence; vicus continues to exist (baths identified, no sign of forum, temples, amphitheater yet)
- c.121: Municipium Aelium Augustum
- c.170: Wall (encloses about sixty to sixty-five hectares)
- III Italica in Regensburg, but Augusta Vindelicum remains important
- 260: Victory Monument
- c.300: Capital Raetia Secunda
- Diocletianic Persecution: Afra martyred
- Mid-fifth century: end of Roman control
- c. 565 Venantius Fortunatus praises cult of Saint Afra
- Continuity until the Middle Ages likely (s.VI settlement near cathedral, becomes episcopal see)
